middleclicknocollapse for Fx 1.5 and 2
One of the extensions I've found most useful is Omar Khan's middleclicknocollapse. It prevents the bookmarks menu from collapsing when an item is middle-clicked.
It couldn't be installed in Firefox 1.5 or 2.0 because of a change in the way extensions must register their chrome. I couldn't live without middleclicknocollapse, so I modified it to use the new chrome registration method, and I was happily surprised to find that it now works for me.
Warning: If you install this version of middleclicknocollapse, you do so entirely at your own risk. I don't know anything about writing extensions and I don't know much about how or why my modification works. I can't provide any support if it erases your hard drive or kills your pets.
If you've read the warning and want to try it anyway, here it is. Good luck!
Update: Good news! There's now an extension called Stay-Open Menu which will provide Firefox 3 with the functionality of middleclicknocollapse. If you're testing Firefox 3 betas, please check it out. And once you leave Firefox 2 for good, move to Stay-Open Menu, since there won't be any further updates to middleclicknocollapse.
